Loket is a picturesque small Czech Republic town located about 15 kilometres south of Karlovy Vary. Initially, Loket was not part of our itinerary. However, unfortunately, the weather turned very bad when we were in Bohemian Switzerland and we didn’t feel like staying camping an additional day while there was nothing else to do or see. Our host recommended we head to Loket and take more time to explore this beautiful time. Good thing: the weather tends to be better than in the Bohemian Switzerland and Bohemian Paradise areas. Even though Loket might be a small town and there aren’t plenty of things to see, I would still highly recommend a stop of at least 3 hours. In this photographic overview and quick travel guide to Loket, I want to show you why Loket is worth your time!
You can’t really say “walking around” is a thing to do in Loket. I’ll be honest with you, there aren’t too many things to do in Loket besides soaking up the beauty of the town and in case you are in to photography: making pictures!
Loket has a stunning town square that might look familiar to you because of the James Bondy movie “Casino Royal” which films in Loket, but also in Karlovy Vary. The Town Square is the center of town and multiple hotels and restaurants are located at the Town Square.
If a town is not known for many popular sights, it gives me the opportunity to focus on details in a town even more and admire the beauty in the small things. This is definitely how I felt about Loket. Especially the old school sign boards drew my attention.
If you walk from the town square up to Loket castle, there are plenty of beautiful little streets and views to be found. I specifically liked this area because of the pink, orange, and yellow-toned colourful houses.
Even though you might not expect a lot from the food and bar scene in Loket, there are plenty of places that are great for lunch, dinner or drinks. In the end, even though we spend only one day in town, we managed to try a couple of them!
Top tip: During our stay in Loket, we have stayed at Hotel Stein Elbogen. An amazing place with great breakfast (and finally a good cup of coffee!). I would highly recommend this place. A room costs ~€75 night for quite a luxurious place.
Already mentioned in the restaurant section, but Atmosfera is also a great place to stay. Atmosfera has one of the highest Booking.com ratings in Loket, and you can book your room for €90.
My final recommendation in Loket is Penzion Quest, which is located near Hotel Stein Elbogen. The rooms are simple but are equipped with everything you’ll need.
