The Alta Via 1, Day 6 marks the final day of this great experience. We have enjoyed hiking, clearing our heads, and not thinking about anything else than getting from A to B and after-hike beers so much. We felt a bit sad that it is over after this day! Day 6 is relatively easy in terms of elevation, however, going down is quite tense on the knees. Good to know that we booked our Alta Via 1 experience through www.idtravel.nl, and the final days of the full Alta Via will be slightly different.
1 || From Rifugio Staulanza, you walk through the forest and are rewarded with spectacular views of layered mountains (path 472)
2 || At Passo du Rutorto, you switch to path number 475, which brings you down to Villanova
After breakfast, we left for our last day. It was slightly foggy but we were still full of energy to complete the last day. You start with hiking path 472 through the forest, but after a while, the forest opens up and you’ll be rewarded with amazing views of green fields and layered mountains.

We didn’t expect snow on this final day, while already descending quite a bit, but we still had to pass some snow. After the snow ended, it was time to start the final part of the hike and head towards path 475.
We had some trouble finding path 475, as for us it didn’t feel all like a path. However, just head straight over the grass and before you know it, you’ll find your next path. It will be all lush green, wandering through valleys until you reach the next and last forest, where you will start the main descent.
And that was it, the completion of the Alta Via 1, Day 6, also marks the end of our Alta Via experience! When we arrived in Villanova we caught the bus back to Dobbiacco, where we enjoyed some nice swimming and sauna time in our hotel, before heading to Innsbruck (this is how you can spend the day in Innsbruck) the next day to catch our night train back to the Netherlands.
